The army has announced investigations by police and other security agencies into shooting Monday morning at its barracks in Mbuya.

Col Felix Kulayigye, the spokesperson of the Uganda People’s Defence Force said in a statement that a group of thugs attacked one of the guards deployed North East at the barracks with intentions to grab his gun. He explained that the guard and the rest of the soldiers however managed to respond on time and kill one of the attackers.

He added that the soldiers also arrested on of the thugs while others fled away. Kulayigye however did not disclose the exact number of the attackers but said investigations into their motive is underway.

He also appealed to members of the public with information into the incident to volunteer it to the army.

Mbuya military barracks where the incident occurred is a few kilometres below Mbuya hill where the UPDF headquarters is located. The incident is the only known in many years for thugs to target armed soldiers at a military barracks.

Kulayigye however maintained that the public to remain calm as the army is on alert to provide security.
