Kampala: A delegation of Indian investors has met with Vice President Jessica Alupo in her office to brief her on the upcoming visit of Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, a global ambassador of peace and an advocate for a violence free world.
The delegation led by Harshad Barot, the chairman Tirupati Development Uganda Limited said the visit of Gurudev will be preceded by a business and investment summit that seeks new and renewed partnerships in different areas.
According to Barot, Gurudev Sri Sri is not just a religious leader, but also a spiritual leader with over 450million followers worldwide.
His bio indicates that Gurudev is a humanitarian and spiritual leader who has built a profile through the Art of living and the International Association for human values.
“We believe that his visit will boost tourism and increase investment portfolios between the two countries”, said Miraj Barot, who was part of the delegation.
The Vice President expressed her gratitude and readiness to host the spiritual leader, giving them her assurances of a peaceful stay. She expressed Uganda’s commitment to continue partnerships between the two countries of India and Uganda.
“Uganda and India have been trade partners for long, and we would like to expeditiously see more opportunities of growth”, therefore, she added “the business summit is timely”.
The delegation had earlier, also briefed the Vice President on their business portfolio in Uganda which includes manufacturing and property development, which create a number of employment opportunities for indigenous Ugandans.
Alongside the business arm, Tirupati runs Leela foundation, a corporate social investment that among others, donates food and other items to 400 elderly women every month in different areas of Kampala.
“We do this out of duty and responsibility because Uganda welcomed our parents who came with USD 150 over 30 years ago, but has thrived out of the goodwill from Uganda”, Juhi Barot, the founder said.
Hon Roselily Akello, minister of state for ethics and integrity and Rev Aaron Mwesigye, Director of Religious Affairs attended the meeting.
