Total In Hot Soup
The minister without portfolio in charge of Political Mobilisation Richard Todwong says Total, other oil companies and government officials have violated the human rights of Nwoya District residents by polluting their land and harming their health with oil spills, natural gas flaring and waste dumping.
The visibly angry Todwong threatened to report the oil company and officials from the Energy Ministry under the Petroleum, Exploration and Production Department before his boss President Museveni.
While addressing a fully packed press briefing, the concerned son of the soil vowed to act immediately.
“The agreements are very clear. Anyone trying to violate them will face the full force of the law” the youthful Todwong who is also the area MP said.
Earlier, area councillor Fredrick Okecha had told Red Pepper that due to polluting and waste dumping; hundreds of locals of Got Apwoyo in Purongo Sub-county have fled their hitherto fertile soils.
“The investor is not bothered by the livelihoods of the land owners. We will not sit back and bury our heads in the sand as our land is being polluted.” Warned Okecha.
