Uganda Cranes Hammer Ethiopia To Storm Semis

Uganda Cranes have again proven that they are the team to beat in this year’s CECAFA Tusker Cup championship after they dispatched the Antelopes of Ethiopia in the last quarter final game 2 – 0 to book their place in the last four on Tuesday evening.

From the word go, it was clear who really wanted to play in the semi final as the cranes pecked the harmless antelopes of Ethiopia.

In the fourth minute, Geoffrey ‘Baba’ Kizito who scored the cranes first goal in the tournament against Kenya punished the antelopes’ poor defending when he slotted home Brian Umony’s deflected short to put the champions ahead.

The cranes then dictated the direction of the game with Moses Oloya and Baba Kizito combining well to keep possession in the home side’s favor.

Unlike other games, Brian Umony was not sharp despite the many chances and this could be blamed on his slight heel injury that almost ruled out of the game. He was eventually stretched off later in the game and replaced by Emma Okwi who also troubled the Ethiopian defence.

Robert Sentongo who had a bright start to the second half sealed the victory for the Uganda Cranes in the 60^th minute when he calmly controlled a cross from the right side before shooting with his left foot to put the game beyond doubt.

Earlier in the day, Kenya’s Harambee Stars beat tournament guests Malawi 1 – 0 to qualify for the semi finals of the CECAFA Tusker Cup.

Uganda Cranes will play Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro stars while Kenya Harambee stars face  Zanzibar in the semi final fixtures to be played on Thursday.
