Uganda Cranes to Play Zambia today
By Serestino Tusingwire
Uganda cranes will today at 4:00pm play Zambia’s Chipolopolo at Mandela National stadium in a warm up match towards a world cup qualifier game with Congo Brazzaville.
Zambia is remembered for failing Cranes’ chance to qualify for the AFCON 2013 following a 9-8 penalty defeat at Nambole.
Zambia’s return to Nambole today for an international friendly is intended to fine-tune both sides for the weekend’s 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
It’s not the perfect revenge.
Micho Sredojevic’s team is bouncing in the road to Russia.
Cranes drew away 1-1 away in Ghana whereas Chipolopolo lost their World Cup qualifying opener at home to Nigeria 2-1.
Uganda host Congo Brazzaville on Saturday, Zambia will be in Cameroon.
Today’s being a preparatory game, Micho has already hinted on, or rather promised, the domestic trio of Muhammad Shaban, Derrick Nsibambi and Muzamir Mutyaba getting some game time.
Onduparaka’s Shaban and the latter two, both KCCA, were impressive in Cranes 6-1 rout of a Kampala Select side in a build-up game on Saturday.
“I rarely speak about individuals. In performance today they have convinced me that they deserve minutes against Zambia,” said Micho.
Kenyan-based defender Godfrey Walusimbi joined the team on Sunday after Moses Oloya, goalkeeper Salim Jamal, Tonny Mawejje, Geoffrey ‘Baba’ Kizito and Yunus Sentamu had done so earlier.
The last of the foreign contingent joined the team in training last evening with captain Massa and Baroka teammate Khalid Aucho among the arrivals.
African club champion Denis Onyango, Robert Odongkara, defender Denis Guma, Shafiq Batambuze, Isaac Isinde, Yasser Mugerwa, and William Kizito Luwagga will come into the picture too.
