Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has revealed that the East African country is slowly waking out of the slumber that has kept the continent backward.

The President made these remarks during the pass-out of 2,941 soldiers who graduated from Kaweweta Military College on Tuesday.
“I am happy to note that we are getting out of the slumber that has kept Africa lagging behind for a long time,” Museveni said.
He added, “The problem of importing everything. I have seen these recruits in uniform made in Uganda.”

The president who congratulated the army leadership for the Uganda Peoples Defence Force (UPDF) professionalization program SAYING, “The least educated graduand has O-level certification. It’s a good start, it makes training easier and enables army replenishment with young, healthy personnel.”

He also revealed plans to build industrial parks in some areas of Nakaseke district.
“The welfare of soldiers is being improved step by step. I have seen new lecture blocks, soon we shall move to dormitories and then houses for families. Soon we shall also be making the shoes. And the market is available in our institutions; army, police, prisons, schools, hospitals. We shall make it mandatory for them to buy from home factories,” he said before adding;
“I urge wanainchi to embrace this trend for development as opposed to their traditional nomadic lifestyle. It is not sustainable in this economy coupled with the problems of land.”
