Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa Region Police Spokesperson says that Chemonges was picked up for questioning in connection to the death of the butcher. He says that Opio was heard shouting for help after he was stabbed before he collapsed a few meters away from the scene.

Okema says that, Chemonges is suspected to have killed Opio out of rage because of a woman identified as Cecilia Aber, who is also being held. He says police has recovered a blood stained knife believed to have been used in the murder. Opio’s body has been taken to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.

Captain Mark Mutono, the 4th Division Army Spokesperson warns army officers against turning their guns against civilians saying they will face the full wrath of the army. This is not the only murder in the district involving a UPDF officer.
