We Had A Good Meeting With Fifa, Govt - Magogo

The FUFA Vice President in-charge of Administration, Moses Magogo has said they had a fruitful meeting with members of the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) and the Ministry of Education and Sports on Sunday.

The Ministry had invited FIFA to send representatives to give a true picture and explain some of the issues affecting Ugandan football in the prevailing existing squabbles. For the last three months the country has had two rivals Leagues. The FUFA Super League recognized by the FA is already in the second round but minus sponsors, while the rival Bell Super League under USL with sponsors Uganda Breweries Limited and Super Sport is also running.

Without spelling out the specifics of the meeting, Magogo told Uganda Radio Network that the FIFA Primo Carvalho (Head of Football Associations) and Leodegar Tenga (also Cecafa and Tanzania FA President) had explained their stand to the Ministry officials. They reportedly maintained their stand that majority of the Ugandan football family through the adoption of a new constitution last year had opted for a new body to run the League, while USL preferred to be in the opposition.

Last December the Minister of Education and Sports, Jessica Alupo said there should be only one League by January 31. However, on the day of the set deadline, she said the matter would be forwarded to Cabinet to make the final ruling. The Cabinet is expected to debate the matter on Wednesday, after which Alupo and the State Minister in-charge of Sports, Charles Bakkabulindi will announce the verdict.

The other members who attended the Sunday meeting included the Ministers Alupo and Bakkabulindi, Omara Apitta (Commissioner for Physical Education and Sports), Francis X. Lubanga (Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education and Sports), Lawrence Mulindwa (FUFA President), Edgar Watson (FUFA CEO) and Magogo.
