Whistle-blower Rewarded With Shs1m

Rashid Aiko, a private security guard is one million Shillings richer after saving Uganda Telecom’s fiber cable from being vandalized by a group of unidentified criminals.

“We are impressed that people are now vigilant enough to track down vandalism. We are eternally grateful to Mr. Aiko for the strong sense of responsibility he has shown in the fight against this vice and call upon all responsible members of our society to join in this fight,” Jackie Kihuguru, Head of Customer Operations Uganda Telecom said today in Kololo.
UTL’s whistle blower initiative that was launched three months back with locals calling a toll free hot line on 0800 160 000 to report any cases of theft, fraud, vandalism and tampering with equipment like poles, fiber cables, copper wires and cabinets of any telephone equipment or cables.
