Whitaker Denies Pocketing Bribes From China Harbor Engineering Corporation

Rosa Whitaker, the former United States Assistant Trade Representative to Africa has denied pocketing bribes to lobby for the award of the Standard Gauge railway contract to influence China Harbor Engineering Corporation.
Whitaker appeared before the select committee investigating the award of Standard Gauge Railway contract on the directive of President Yoweri Museveni.
She is implicated in the controversy surrounding the award of the UGX 22 trillion contracts to China Harbour Engineering Corporation.
Whitaker reportedly pushed for the award of the contract to China Harbour Engineering Corporation president Museveni forcing government to terminate an earlier memorandum Understanding signed with China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation.
Robert Kafeero Ssekitoleko, the select committee chairperson told journalists on Monday evening that, Museveni called him and asked the committee to meet Whitaker because she was flying out of the country.
Only four of the seven select committee members including Robert Kafeero Ssekitoleko, Maxwell Akora, Obote Ongalo and Susan Amero turned up for the closed door meeting.
Shortly after meeting Whitaker in camera, Ssekitoleko, explained to the journalists she denied receiving any payment to front China Harbour Engineering Corporation for the award of the Standard Gauge Railway contract.
Whitaker who was accompanied to the committee by two aides declined to speak to the media and instead referred journalists to the legislators.
Last week, while meeting the select committee at State House Entebbe, Museveni declined to comment on the role of Whitaker in the Railway deal saying he was not in a theater and that her involvement was confidential.
