Why Government Postponed NRM Anniversary

Last week, the government announced that it was postponing the 27th NRM anniversary celebrations that were slated for 26 of this month to 30 January without any clear explanation.
However, Uganda’s minister for Information and National Guidance Mary Karooro Okurut on Tuesday morning came out to explain why the commemorative day was postponed at a press conference.
According Karooro Okurut, the date was postponed because it was not suitable for some of the invited guests.
She said that the government has already received confirmation from Egypt and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The Minister also declared that January 30 when the anniversary will be celebrated is a public Holiday. The NRM Anniversary will be held at Nyakasanga Stadium in Kasese District, western Uganda.
It will be celebrated under the theme ““Lessons from Our History: NRM’s Commitment to Create a Better Future for Uganda”, NRM’s commitment to create a better future for Uganda.
On January 26 1986, the National Resistance Army led by Yoweri Kaguta Museveni captured power after a five year guerrilla war against the governments of deceased presidents Apollo Milton Obote and General Tito Okello Lutwa.
