8 Killed As Taxi Collides With Land Cruiser In Luweero

Road accidents have been increasing at an increasing rate in Uganda this year

Eight people have died and at least five others seriously injured in a fatal road accident at Kaswa about 30 kilometers into Luweero along Kampala-Gulu highway following a head-on collision of a taxi registration number UAL. 336W and a Toyota Land cruiser registration number UAU. 197W.

The accident occurred Saturday afternoon.

According to eye witnesses, the taxi fully packed with passengers was from Luweero headed to Kampala, before the Land cruiser which was coming from the opposite direction, collided with it after it tried to overtake a trailer.

Hassan Sekalema, the Savannah Regional Traffic Officer [RTO] says that five people have been taken to Njovu clinic in Wobulenzi

Luweero District Police Commander [DPC] Justus Asiimwe says that the bodies of the deceased have been taken to Kasana Health Centre IV for post-mortem.

Savannah RTO Sekalema attributes the accident to over speeding.

He however notes that the traffic force is still investigating it.

DPC Assimwe says that they have so far managed to identify one dead person as Sarah Nakaweesi a resident of Bukomero.

By the time of filing this story they were working round the clock to identify the others.
