HYPOCRITES! Minister opens war on cheaters in church

Hypocrisy among Christians is growing with many living double lives and this must stop, the Minister for the Presidency has advised.
Milly Babirye Babalanda is now asking Christians to stop living double lives that are not pleasing before God and rather set good examples in their ways of life for children to emulate.
“By contrast, there are many people today who have stayed for decades in Church yet their behaviors and character have failed to change. They often steal, cheat, tell lies, hate others and even fail to help where they are able. They have been hardened away from God by the so many events of violence, murder, hate and destruction around them. They have taken up the same lifestyles of those who hate God yet they are right at the center of church. What a pity,” she said.
Speaking during celebrations to mark St Gonzaga Gonza day at St Gonzaga Gonza Church held in Budini, Kaliro District on Sunday, July 3, Babalanda further urged Church leaders to desist from the talk of “do what I say but not what I do” which she labeled a message of the Devil.
“Some leaders of our Church communities lead two lives basing on the above saying: they teach good things but then they practice bad things. This confuses our followers and those who aspire to join us. The Church and all those called to serve in the church must be exemplary. Church leaders should not be found to be corrupt or breaking the law. Yet this is a big disease in Uganda.”
This day has been celebrated for decades in the Busoga sub-region. To the minister, it is not only for Busoga but rather to the entire Uganda and the World at large since St. Gonzaga “surrendered his life for a right cause and he became a wonderful Example of sticking to what is right amidst pressures from powerful human beings.”
“Through this celebration, we are called to emulate the simple character, dedication and firm belief of St. Gonzaga. St. Gonzaga did not live at the time of much information and neither when the word of God was widely known; yet for the short time he was a Catholic, he deeply understood the Lord to the point of surrendering his life for the cause of Christ,” she said and went on to advise Christians to use the day to reflect on their morals and judge whether they are in tandem with God’s ways.
Amiable Babalanda called upon Church leaders to return the morals of especially the young people who are deeply diverted by violent habits of foreigners. She said this can be through a gospel that softens the people’s hearts especially during this time when they are putting up with very hard situations.
“The NRM government will continue to provide the enabling environment for freedom of worship and your duty as church leaders is to sow the seeds of love, peace, development and good neighborliness. You should not preach a gospel that divides the people.
On the other hand, parents are called upon to teach their children the ways of God and grow them into good habits of responsible citizens. The children should be brought here to see the amazing history of our martyrs.”
Pledging to use all means available in her capacity to promote St. Gonzaga Gonza so that many Ugandans get to know about it and as well endear government to support the cause, Babalanda promised to start with President Museveni whom she will woo to visit the area once the situation permits.
It should also be noted that Busoga Diocese will lead the martyrs’ day celebration at Namugongo on 3rd June, 2023. The Minister pledged to link them up with the Government for preparatory support.
Babalanda could not end her speech without preaching the poverty alleviation gospel.
“I call upon the church and the community leaders to mobilize the communities to increasingly participate in development programs of the government, especially the Parish Development Model which is being promoted by the government. Government has played its part in providing developmental resources and now it’s your turn to participate in the programs,” she stressed.
The Presidency Minister is also not happy that despite many factories in the Busoga region, hardly do they source raw materials from there and is committed to do something about it.
“Also, it has come to our observation that the people of Busoga are lucky to have so many investors that have established factories but yet nearly none of these factories obtain their raw materials from Busoga. It’s a very big shame that the NRM government has created this good environment for investors and yet we cannot benefit from it. Accordingly, I am engaging the investors to work with our people here so that they can grow the raw materials needed for their industries, especially those in agro-processing. Alternatively, some will install machinery that specifically uses the crops and raw materials grown in Busoga. Please make sure your congregations are part of these activities that are aimed at transforming their lives and they are keen to cause their leaders to account for the application of all the public resources received.”
