DTB BLOOD MONEY! How Client Walked Into Bank Alive & Left for the Mortuary as More Questions Mount

A shocking death linked to a visit at Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) Naalya Branch has sparked public outrage after police finally admitted that customer Fahad Lubega was violently attacked by a mob before dying from his injuries.
The 30-year-old’s death has raised uncomfortable questions for both the bank and security agencies, with critics accusing DTB of trying to distance itself from the tragic incident.
Rubega’s nightmare reportedly began on June 4 when he visited DTB’s Naalya branch in Nakawa Division. According to witnesses, what started as a routine banking transaction quickly turned chaotic after a dispute erupted over allegations that he had previously obtained money through fraud.
Witnesses claim that as Lubega attempted to leave the premises, the bank manager allegedly ordered security guards to stop him. Moments later, boda-boda riders and members of the public joined in, turning the confrontation into a brutal mob attack.
The helpless customer was reportedly beaten mercilessly before fellow bank customers intervened and rescued him from the angry crowd, taking him back inside the banking hall.
Police officers later picked him up and transported him to Kiwatule Police Station for questioning. However, his condition deteriorated while in custody. He was rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital but died shortly after arrival.
The case was recorded under CRB 06/04/26.
In a twist that has fueled even more controversy, police initially denied that any mob attack had taken place at DTB. Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala publicly dismissed social media reports describing the incident.
But days later, Police spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke made a dramatic U-turn and apologized for the misleading statement, blaming a communication breakdown between police units.
Investigators now say the incident originated from a property rental dispute.
According to police, one of Lubega’s clients had contacted him seeking rental property. The client allegedly paid Shs12 million to a DTB account registered in the names of Lubega Fahad after agreeing to rent a property in Kyanja.

The money reportedly covered rent and a security deposit. However, the deal allegedly collapsed when the caretaker informed the client that the property was not available for rent but was instead being offered for sale.
By the time the client attempted to recover the money, the funds had already been withdrawn.
Police say the complaint was reported to DTB, which advised the complainant to also open a case with police.
Authorities further claim that the bank later alerted police after Lubega was spotted at the branch and detained by security personnel.
“When officers arrived, the suspect had already been apprehended and appeared weak, though there were no visible torture marks,” ACP Kituuma said.
However, witnesses maintain that Lubega had already suffered a severe beating from a mob before police arrived.
Meanwhile, DTB Uganda has issued a carefully worded statement expressing sadness over Lubega’s death while emphasizing that its last interaction with him occurred on June 2 after a complaint linked to a transaction.
The bank stated that the matter had been reported to police and that Lubega was subsequently taken into police custody for investigations.
Notably, the statement makes no mention of the mob attack that witnesses and police now acknowledge occurred outside the bank premises.

“We extend our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones. The Bank is cooperating fully with the relevant authorities and will continue to provide any assistance required,” DTB management said.
As investigators continue piecing together the events that led to Lubega’s death, questions remain unanswered.
Who summoned the crowd? Why was a customer allegedly handed over to a mob? Why was the public initially told no attack had occurred? And who should ultimately be held responsible for the death of a man who walked into a bank but never made it home?
Lubega’s death comes barely weeks after Rugby Cranes star Sidney Gongondyo was also killed by a mob in Naguru, a case that has already seen more than a dozen suspects arrested.
For now, police say investigations into both the alleged fraud case and the circumstances surrounding the mob violence are ongoing.
