Uganda7sNeighbours Kenya have this year been appointed by the International Rugby Board host the 2014 CAR Africa Women’s Cup Sevens in April this year before also returning with the Men’s Africa Cup 7’s Alongside Safari Sevens in September.

IRB General manager for Africa, Jean-Luc Barthez confirmed this at the ongoing IRB Leading Africa Seminar in Cape Town, South Africa.
He said, “Owing to logistical challenges stemming from hosting it in Morocco, Kenya offered to host the event and the Confederation of African Rugby accepted their offer.”

This year’s tournament will be held in Machakos and will feature eight teams namely South Africa, Tunisia, Senegal, Kenya, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Madagascar and Namibia.

Uganda however will have to wait for confirmation into the Men’s Africa Cup 7’s which according to Jean-Luc Barthes will get the much needed hype hosting them concurrently with the Safaricom Sevens will raise the tournament’s profile and will be a source of great exposure for all participating teams.
South Africa would field a representative side at the event.
