Big boys lose Afcon qualifiers

The Elephants were put to the sword by Cameroon thanks to two goals each from Clinton Njie and Vincent Aboubakar as the Indomitable Lions ran out 4-1 victors. Yaye Toure tapped in a consolation goal for the visitors.

Ivory Coast are now third in Group D with three points, while Cameroon are top on six points after winning their first two matches.

Things are not going much better for seven-time Nations Cup winners Egypt. The Pharaohs lost 1-0 at home to Tunisia courtesy of Fakhreddine Ben Youssef’s 14th-minute goal.

Egypt are bottom of Group G on zero points, while Senegal and Tunisia both have six points after the former beat Botswana 2-0 on Wednesday.

Zambia suffered the third shock result of the evening, going down 2-1 to Cape Verde Islands on their artificial home turf. Jacob Mulenga scored for Chipolopolo but goals from Ze Luis and Heldon ensured Cape Verde now top Group F with six points, while Zambia remain on one point.
