Bobby Defends self over Keshi Allegations
The Cranes coach Bobby Williamson has criticised Nigeria’s 2013 Afcon winning coach Stephen Keshi for recently saying some European coaches who come to Africa are mediocre and only come for money.
Williamson yesterday said that it was an insult for Keshi to think that way. Williamson has been in-charge of the Cranes for four years now. Last month after the group stages of the 2013 Afcon in South Africa, Keshi said he cannot accept that some mediocre coaches from Europe who come to Africa are better than him. Keshi whose team beat Burkina Faso 1-0 to win the Afcon title last Sunday said the European coaches just come for the money in Africa and yet they are not doing anything that Africans cannot do. Williamson says he is in Uganda because of good weather although he does his work with dedication as a professional. Williamson said it is no different with African players in Europe because of the money and nothing else, but they are professionals. Williamson has won four Cecafa Tusker Senior Challenge Cups with the Cranes. Currently only a few Nations in Africa use local coaches like; Nigeria, Ethiopia, Sudan, Ghana, Tunisia, Cape Verde, Morocco, South Africa and Kenya. The likes of Uganda, Algeria, Burkina Faso, DR Congo, Ivory Coast among others all employ European coaches.
A man’s chance should not be used to deprive another the chance. It is true that sounds like an insult and it is. First of all how many attempts has Nigeria tried to future in AFCON in the recent years and collected nothing?
Does Keshi think he was the only black coach in the recent AFCON? Ghana Had James Appiaha, Ethiopia and does he think is the best in the continent now? He should be happy that instead of focusing to finals of Afcon Burkina Faso concentrated on the circumstances the wrong dismissal of their key striker by the refree during the semi final.
Bobby you are the best our Country has produced.
Let no body think you are here for only money. You have beaten the mighty teams in Namboole including the Keshi’s. I am praying that the next AFCON draws put Nigeria and Uganda then Keshi meets his words in Abuja and forgets of what happened in Abouketa.
