Byekwaso Braced For Congolese Tricks

ByekwasoAhead of their crucial Caf Confederations Cup first-leg fixture against CS Don Bosco of DR Congo, ports Club Victoria University head coach, Morley Byekwaso says he is expecting a fair amount of “gamesmanship” from the Congolese.

“I don’t expect to see too much flair [in Lumbabshi],” Byekwaso said jokingly when Red Pepper Online Sports talked to him in a phone interview on Wednesday night.

“So if they play with too much flair, my boys will know how to compose themselves, but that’s what you partly expect when you visit a team that is at home in this competition.”

The team that won last season’s Uganda Cup trophy has for the past month been preparing for the vital away first leg preliminary tie against on Saturday in Lubumbashi.

But despite his young inexperienced team of Africa first-timers and other similar influences on the game, Byekwaso said his team could not afford to concern themselves with factors out of their control.

“These are things we have to overcome and get better at it and try to win the game when we have the ball,” the former Uganda Cranes midfielder said.

“We’re partially going to be in control of the game, so we just have to do what we are supposed to do well and to the best of our ability.

“That’s all we can do and hopefully that will be enough.”

Byekwaso had earlier yesterday evening speaking at event to officially send off the team as usher in the new players recruited to the team called upon his players to have belief ahead of the game.

“We expect to do well. I know many might have already written us off but expect a killer,” he said.

“Confidence will be key going into that game and we need to be very cautious because we shall be away,” added the coach.

“I believe it will give our players a good experience since for most of them, it will be the first time playing in the competition.”

Byekwaso also shared his thoughts on the plans he has to ensure that SCVU makes it through the preliminaries.

“Like I said before, we have new players who will be playing at this competition for the first time.

“We need to prepare them for the atmosphere. Can they meet the expectations of this level?

“All those are things we have to look at, then the game approach.

“Our first game is away and if we can
