COVID-19: No outbreak of coronavirus in Uganda says Health Ministry

Kampala – Ministry of Health has on Friday night, March 20, rubbished rumours that COVID-19 looms, affirming Uganda is still coronavirus-free.

In a statement issued, the Health Minister informed the general public to remain calm amid rumours spread labelling critics ‘individuals with ill intentions’.

Mr Emmanuel Ainebyoona, the Ministry’s Spokesperson revealed that 54 people who showed signs and symptoms similar to that of COVID-19 have been tested.

Out of these, the ministry said, 52 tested have negative while two are pending results from Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI). Uganda has no confirmed case of COVID-19 said Mr Emmanuel Ainebyoona.

Uganda banned with immediate effect, travellers from countries who are affected with this virus for 32 days. Namely: Italy, France, South Korea, China, USA, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Norway Austria, Malaysia, Pakistan, and San Marino.

This also applies to all movements by Ugandans to or through these countries for 32 days.

President Museveni urged foreigners going to those countries to do so provided they do not come back within the prohibited time.

The travel ban will affect all non-Uganda nationals from visiting the country.
