Early Results In Rukungiri By-Election

Rukungiri poll

Vote Counting is underway in Rukungiri District Woman Member of Parliament by-election.

Heavily armed forces including the army and police remain camped in all sub counties and the municipality. The exercise registered a low turn up with most voters opting to stay away.

The Electoral Commission Spokesperson, Jotham Taremwa described the exercised as successful and smooth. Police earlier arrested ten people among them the former Rukungiri District LCV Chairman, Athanasius Rutaro over alleged voter bribery and inciting violence.

Forum for Democratic Change-FDC Betty Muzanira is contesting against National Resistance Movement- NRM’s Winfred Matsiko, Prisca Sezi Mbaguta, an independent candidate and Fabith Kukundakwe of the Peoples Progressive Party-PPP.  Last month, the Court of Appeal, declared the seat vacant following a successful petition by Muzanira.

Muzanira lost to Matsiko in the February 2016 elections but petitioned court citing voter bribery.

  1. This should send a strong signal to the sitting president- knowing very well that Ugandans no longer want him as a leader and he should stop dreaming that Uganda as A NATION is his property. Big shame
