The game had ended 2-2 before Magoola stopped two penalty kicks and converted the deciding one to send the Sudan League champions to the finals.

Magoola who joined El merriekh last month was upbeat that he played a big role in helping his team qualify for the final. The former Ugandan U-20 national team goalkeeper said he is now hungry to win the trophy for his team.

The Ugandan champions started the game looking shaky with the Sudan giants dominating play. Mohamed Traore made it 1-0 after 33 minutes when KCCA FC goalkeeper Yasin Mugabi failed to hold the shot by the Malian striker.

After the interval Tom Masiko equalized for KCCA FC after a neat cross by skipper Saka Mpiima. Mohamed Traore finished off an easy tap-in when Mugabi parried the ball in his path.

With eight minutes to full time Brian Umony scored his fourth goal of the tournament with a clever finish.

The two teams played an extra 30 minutes before El merriekh sealed it in penalties. Magoola saved Umony and Brian Majwega’s penalties, while Masiko fired his out.

Gabri Balla, Hussein Mousa Faisal and Magoola netted for the Sudan giants, while their Kenyan import Allan Wanga had his saved.

Before we went to press Rwanda sides APR FC and Police FC were still battling in the second semi-final tie.

The final will be played at the Amahoro Stadium on Sunday. Uganda’s representatives can now try to battle for the third prize of UGX25 million. The winner will take UGX 75 million and the runner-up UGX50 million.
