Entebbe Municipal Council Engineer under-fire over bad roads

The Entebbe Municipal Council Principal Engineer Christine Nanfuka is under-fire for failure to repair several roads within Entebbe Municipality. Sources told us that every year council appropriates billions of money towards road repair and maintenance but surprisingly a few roads are worked on moreover patching them while the rest are unattended to. The roads in dire state include Kiwafu road, Nakiwogo/Lugonjo road, Nsamizi road, Manyago road, Kintu road, Middle lane in Manyago zone, Kitumbu road in Manyago1 and Byatike road among others.

A few months ago, a team of investigators alongside external auditors visited Eng. Nanfuka’s office, demanding accountability for money allocated to road infrastructures and in turn she presented to them signed vouchers which had a lot of queries.

It’s said in the financial year 2022/2023, over Shs 170 million was allocated to repair both Kintu and Manyago road but unfortunately till to now the two roads have never been fixed and are full of serious potholes.

Two years ago a team in charge of monitoring government programs inspected Kintu and Manyago road but was shocked to find the roads in a sorry state yet in a previous meeting held at Wakiso district headquarters Eng. Nanfuka had informed them that the two roads were fixed.

However, when the team got the truth on the ground, they ordered for her arrest, and she spent one week in police cells before she was released on police bond.

On the second occasion the same team visited Busambaga road and found out a lot of shoddy work and immediately ordered for the arrest of embattled Eng. Nanfuka plus her deputy Eng. Brian Kabunga who had not worked that day. She was thrown behind bars and when Eng. Brian Kabunga learnt of the arrest of his boss he absconded office for almost close to two weeks. When things calmed down Eng. Brian came back to the office but he was very suspicious that he would be arrested.

Actually when Eng. Kabunga learnt he was being investigated on a number of roads he supervised when he was the acting Entebbe Municipal Council Engineer following the resignation of Eng. Male who got greener pastures elsewhere, he chose to flee the country and sources close to him told us that he is currently in the Netherlands doing some pet work for survival. Following his departure, council has advertised his job and many applicants have applied to fill his vacancy.

In related news, sources intimated us Eng. Nanfuka is being investigated on a number of issues including her academic credentials. Rumors indicate that Eng. Nanfuka is an architect by profession and now the question is whether an architect can as well do the job of a civil engineer.
