Kampala Metropolitan Police are holding a man who reportedly set up fake facebook accounts and used the same to con people of millions of shillings in a jobs scam.

KMP announced they’re holding Steven Amanyire aged 24 for allegedly creating a fake Facebook account in a woman’s name and used the same account to advertise fictitious job vacancies.

Police say Amanyire, a resident of Kasubi, Rubaga Division in Kampala created a Facebook account in the names of Cathy Irene Mugalanda, joined several nursing groups in which he advertised jobs with in the Health Services Commission.

Amanyire then claimed to have connections in HSC which he could use to get applicants the jobs for a commission.
‘His unsuspecting victims would be then tasked to send money on a mobile money number 0788104333 conning an amount of money up to a tune of 15 million Uganda Shillings,’ the police said in a statement.
He is currently detained at CPS Kampala under charges of impersonation, electronic fraud and obtaining money by false pretense.
