Bigirwa was gunned down by unidentified robbers on Valentine’s Day while trying to stop a robbery attempt at pump station in Kajjansi.

Yesterday, Andrew Felix Kaweesi, the commandant Kampala Metropolitan police directorate said four cops had been arrested for negligence of duty.

Kaweesi who declined to disclose the identities of the officers accused them of failing to provide Bigirwa reinforcement in time, which exposed him to danger leading to his death.

However, Red Pepper online independently established the affected officers include the OC CID, Patrol Officer and operations officer.

According to Kaweesi, the officers are being held for questioning adding that, they will appear before the disciplinary committee for appropriate action. He said the crime of negligence is unforgiveable in the eye of the public and the police force.

Kaweesi also condemned the brutal attack on Geofrrey Kananura, the Officer in charge of Maganjo police station.

He blamed the rise in such crime on the inability of the law to adequately punish wrong doers and relaxed laws, which allows individuals and private security companies to own guns saying this contributes to the high levels of street crime.

He however, says cops will not hesitate to shoot back at armed robbers who target them.
