Namanve industrial park is now a bastion of manufacturing activities.
Investors from all walks of life continue to scramble for space to set up manufacturing plants much to the delight of President Museveni as far as his NRM government’s industrial agenda is concerned with Robert Mukiza’s Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) at the forefront.
Under UIA Industrial Parks Development Initiative, operational parks include Namanve, Bweyogerere, Luzira, Kasese, Mbarara, Jinja, Mbale, Soroti & Karamoja. Those being planned include Arua, Gulu, Lira, Buliisa, Hoima, Nakasongola, Luwero-Nakaseke, Kabarole, Mubende, Mityana, Masaka, Kabale, Bushenyi, Tororo, Rakai and Iganga.
In this series titled “Who is doing what in Namanve Industrial Park”, we shall be profiling company by company and what they are doing in Namanve. Later on we shall also profile other industrial parks across the country.

Today, we begin with Steema Transformer and electrical Pvt Ltd (U). We talked to Shekhar Singh Shekhawat (Director).
QN: What is Steema Transformer and electrical Pvt Ltd (U) all about?
Steema Transformer and electrical Pvt Ltd (U) is a leading manufacturer of Transformers in Uganda. We entered the Ugandan market in 2019. We aim to become a leading supplier and repairer of Transformers and other Electricals in East Africa.
QN: Do you have a plant here or do you import your products?
We have established our plant here in Namanve, Kampala Uganda. This helps us to be near our customers and serving them better.
QN: What exactly do you do?
We specialize in manufacturing power transformers, panels, installation and distribution. We also do service & repair and offer consultancy services.
QN: What is your product portfolio?
We are the leading manufacturers and suppliers of transformers, Dry Type Transformer, Generators, VCB (vacuum circuit breaker), RMU (ring main unit), APFC panel, Distribution Panels, Stabilizers, 185sqmm or 95sqmm Termination Kits, Angel boots and other Electrical Equipment in Uganda and East Africa at large.
QN: How is the business environment in Uganda?
Apart from COVID-19 interruption we are giving good performance with zero failure and very popular in the Ugandan market. We have also partnered with various agencies like Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Yogi Steels, West Nile Rural Electrification Company (WENRECO), Kalangala Infrastructure Services Ltd (KIS) and among others. Uganda is a developing country. We are here not for selling electrical machines only but to also push our efforts to develop the people of Uganda too. Our products are of best quality with effective price, low loss and reliability.
QN: Did you start in Uganda or have roots somewhere else?
Our first factory and service center in Africa was commissioned in Uganda in 2019. But we are part of Steema and Electrical’s facilities in Asia (India) which have produced 100KVA to 15MVA Transformer and have been working since 1994 in Gujarat State (India) in the name of Arya Electronics. We started with Government Electrical Distribution Company for repairing Transformers and now we are a leading manufacturing company in Saurastra region of Gujarat state.
QN: Lastly, what makes you tick as Steema?
We believe in quality and servicing which is our line. We believe that in the Transformer business it is more important to maintain relationships than sales only. We emphasize longer business relationships. We have decided to invest in top quality facilities in the region in order to give our best in this business. Customer satisfaction is our motto. We believe that in East Africa and Uganda Transformer means Steema Transformer and Electrical PV Ltd will earn that honor.
QN: Any last word?
