KIDNAP HORROR! Missing Two-Year-Old Killed, Dumped in Maize Garden After Sh10M Ransom Demand Note, Two Arrested

Police in Kasangati are investigating the suspected murder of a two-year-old girl whose body was recovered from a maize plantation in Kyetume, Gayaza, following her disappearance and a ransom demand of Shs10 million. The child, identified as Dartiva Rosaries Kyomuhando, went missing on October 27, 2026, prompting her mother, Lillian Atukwatse, to report the disappearance to police.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the girl disappeared while playing with neighbouring children. The following morning, a note demanding Shs10 million was reportedly discovered at her mother’s gate, raising fears that she had been kidnapped. Police subsequently arrested two suspects in connection with the incident.
One of the suspects, Joshua Muhumuza, a pedicurist, reportedly confessed to the crime and led investigators to the maize plantation where the child’s body was recovered. He also reportedly identified his alleged accomplice, Amusuguti Florence, who has since been arrested.

During a search, police recovered a mobile phone from Muhumuza. Investigators reportedly found a mobile line on the device that was allegedly used to demand the ransom. Preliminary findings indicate that Muhumuza was known to the child and her mother, having previously worked for the mother as a pedicurist. His residence was separated from the family’s home by a perimeter wall.
The child’s body was taken to Mulago City Mortuary for a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death. Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the child’s disappearance and death are ongoing.
