Kiplagat Confirms National Athletics Champ Attendance

Benjamin Kiplagat finished a distant 14th at the World Championships in the 3000m steeplechase final at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium.

Elite runner Benjamin Kiplagat has confirmed he will grace this weekend’s National Track and Field Championships at Mandela National Stadium.
“Am obviously taking part in the championship as I prepare for the World Athletics Championship in August,” the Olympian told Pepper Sport in an exclusive on Thursday afternoon.

“My aim is not only to defend my title but also improve my fitness for better results in Moscow,” the national 3000m steeplechase record holder added.
London 2012 Olympic Games gold medalist Stephen Kiprotich who has been training at Kenya’s high altitude camp is also expected to take part in the 10,000m race against Abraham Kiplimo and Jackson Kiprop.
More Ugandan athletics including Annet Negesa, Thomas Ayeko and Dorcus Inzikuru are also set to participate in two-day meet to take advantage of this last local event to secure tickets for the August 10-18 championships in Moscow, Russia.
According to Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) publicist Namayo Mawerere, the event will comprise numerous teams, universities, forces, corporate institutions and schools and is bankrolled by telecommunication giants MTN and Aqua Sipi with big guns Prisions (defending champions) Ndejje, Standard, UPDF, Police, Gulu and Arua already confirmed entry.
Other top runners expected to compete include Juliet Chekwel, Peter Kibet, Zacharia Kiprotich, Geoffrey Kusuro, Dickson Huru, Moses Kibet, Viola Chemos, Phillip Kipyego, Nancy Cheptegei, Rebecca Chaptegei and Simon Ayeko, among others.
The deadline for registration is Friday.
