Leadership Code Tribunal’s Asuman Kiyingi Pays Courtesy Call On Vice President Alupo

Mr.Asuman Kiyinji Speaks to VP Jessica Alupo
The Leadership Code Tribunal Deputy Chairperson, Hon. Asuman Kiyingi, on Thursday paid a courtesy call on H.E Major (Rtd) Jessica Rose Epel Alupo, Vice President of the Republic of Uganda, at her office.
H.E Alupo had just declared her assets and liabilities to the Inspector General of Government during virtual sensitization training for newly elected leaders on the Leadership Code Act, 2002, and the Inspectorate of Government Online Declaration System at the Office of the Prime Minister Conference Hall.

The Leadership Code Tribunal, a government institution, established under Article 235A of the 1995 Constitution of Uganda as amended and Section 19A of the Leadership Code (Amendment) Act 2017, is charged with the overall function of enforcement of the Leadership Code of Conduct particularly through adjudication of breaches of the Leadership Code of Conduct.
H.E Alupo noted the dangers of corruption and the importance of mobilizing leaders at all levels to fight against the vice.
‘’This is the only way service delivery can be improved to the communities’’, she noted before pledging total commitment in the fight against corruption.
Hon. Kiyingi used the opportunity to brief the Vice President on the mandate of the Leadership Code Tribunal and its role in the fight against corruption.

In executing its core function, the Tribunal is mandated under Section 19B of the Leadership Code (Amendment) Act to receive, examine, adjudicate and determine any breach of the Code referred to it by the Inspectorate in an effort to ensure a clean public service.
H.E Alupo is the Vice President of the Republic of Uganda, a position she was appointed to in June 2021. She is a politician, educator, and former military officer. She previously served in the cabinet of Uganda as minister of education between 2011 and 2016. She is also an elected member of parliament as Katakwi District’s women’s representative.
