Lwamafa, Obey Quizzed Over Shs88.2bn

Embattled officials in the ministry of public service being investigated over the Shs 165 billion pension scam are hardly out of the woods.

Interdicted Permanent Secretary, Jimmy Lwamafa, Public Service Principle Accountant Christopher Obey and senior Accountant David Oloka are not yet free after police grilled them afresh over the alleged missing Shs 88.2 billion NSSF money.

Director of Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Directorate Grace Akullo told Red Pepper that they summoned the trio to CIID headquarters in Kibuli to make additional statements over the workers; savings.

They appeared at Kibuli on Wednesday where they were grilled for several hours. Lwamafa arrived at 9:00 am and was released on Police bond at 1:00pm. Oloka and Obey were grilled for about four hours.

Kunsa Kiwanuka, director research and development in the Ministry of Public service is also facing the same charges as the trio.

The Shs 88.2 billion cash for 2010/2011 and 2011/2012 financial years were released from the treasury to Ministry of Public Service, but it never reached NSSF where it was destined.

Akullo said after they got the information, they wrote to the Auditor General to make a special audit, who confirmed that there was a problem whereby the said money could not be accounted for.

“We have interrogated the officials and they have given us very good information and we are sure we have a good cause.” Said Akullo.
