Arua | RedPepper Digital – The Minister of Health of Uganda, Hon. Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng has launched mass vaccination against Covid-19 in the West Nile sub-region.
Speaking at the launch at Arua police ground on Wednesday, 8th December 2021, Minister Aceng revealed there were enough vaccines
“Uganda has enough vaccines and was targeting 1.83M people above 18 years in the West Nile sub-region,” said Minister Aceng
She tasked the RDCs/RCCs, their deputies and district health workers to ensure all persons above 18 years are vaccinated to pave way for opening the economy by January 2022.
The RCC, Arua city, Madam Akello Alice Opio reported to the Minister that five (5) people have been arrested in connection with Arua Regional Referral Hospital lost ambulance and are in custody. She hoped that the ambulance would soon be recovered. The Resident City Commissioner thanked President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for spearheading the fight against coronavirus. The RCC also applauded health workers for having worked hard to make the positivity rate drop to 1.3%.
The Director Arua Regional Referral Hospital, Dr. Nyeko Filbert reported to the Minister that the positivity rate in West Nile stands at 3.3% with Obongi district being the worst. He assured the Minister of their commitment as Health workers to ensure corona is kicked out of West Nile.
The Principal Medical Officer, Arua City, Dr. Apangu Pontius informed the Minister that the City doesn’t have an ambulance and that the health workers lacked transport to do their daily works.
Present during the launch was the Deputy RCC, Arua City, Adomati Dickson, the RDC Arua district, Deputy RDC Arua district, RDC Maracha and other dignitaries.
Mass vaccination kicks off in West Nile from Friday, 10 December 2021, with all Health centres having vaccines. Therefore the Minister called upon all those who were not yet vaccinated to get the jab.
