MEDIA SIEGE DAY 10 IN PICTURES
On Monday, Journalists organized under the Human Rights Network for Journalists vowed to stay at the Daily Monitor Premises, until the publication’s offices are opened by government.
The police yesterday morning fought running battles with a group of journalists who were taking part in the solidarity march that aimed at protesting the continued closure and siege of the four media Houses. Several Journalists were clobbered and briefly arrested by Police.
Their demonstration follows Police’s action to close The Monitor and Red Pepper publications on May 20, and immediately declared their offices a crime scene. Police then begun the search for a document allegedly authored by Gen. David Sejusa a.k.a Tinyefuza.
In the letter first published by the Daily Monitor, General Sejjusa allegedly directs the head of the Internal Security Organization (ISO) to investigate a plot to eliminate those opposed to the ‘Muhoozi Project’.
The ‘Muhoozi Project’ is loose translation of an alleged plan by the President to have his son succeed him as a president when he finally leaves office.
The closure of the media houses has drawn condemnation from various groups including the European Union Delegation in Uganda, US Embassy and the United Nations among others.
General Sejjusa is said to be in Europe and according to international news network, Al jazeera, he has requested protection of the UK Police.
