Ugandan President, Yoweri Museveni on Sunday held a meeting with Dr. Rein Zeeman from Stichting Interplast Holland at State House, Entebbe on how to help reinforce the National Referral Hospital, Mulago’s burns and plastic surgery Institute.

Dr. Rein is an Hon. Senior Consultant for Plastic and Reconstructive surgery. He is also the President of Stichting Interplast Holland.

According to Sarah Kagingo, the Special Presidential Assistant on Communications, Dr. Zeeman agreed with the President that about 60 % of the burns experienced in the community can be prevented through sensitization of the people.

Every year, Stichting Interplast Holland dispatches a number of teams of experienced Dutch reconstructive plastic surgeons, operating theatre assistants and anesthetists on missions that are aimed at reconstructive plastic surgeries.

Interplast Holland began in 1991 and is at the moment active in Uganda, Yemen, Nigeria, Rwanda and Indonesia. Teams were also dispatched to Vietnam, India and Pakistan in the 1990s, among other places.

The meeting was attended by senior officials of the ministry of Health and Mulago Hospital.
