Nigeria’s Keshi Unmoved By Stalemate
Head coach of the Nigerian national team, Stephen Keshi has heaped praises on his players following the team’s 1-1 draw against Burkina Faso in their opening game at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa on Monday.
Emmanuel Emenike opened the score in the 23rd minute but Burkina Faso pegged the Eagles back with an equalizer at the death to put things evenly poised on a knife edge in Group C.
The ‘Big Boss’ has now declared that he is proud of his players despite their failure to hold on to their slender lead which would have seen Nigeria assume top spot in the group.
“We are not gonna let anything bring us down, trust me. I am very proud of the boys. They did everything that I wanted,” Keshi said.
The former national team captain also hinted that the team was still in the process of bonding as a unit in a very short space of time.
”Over the last 25 days, this is the fourth day we are playing together as a team, as collective players, not as a team because we are rebuilding.
“I am going to let everything die down tonight (Monday night). Let them (the players) sleep it off. (On Tuesday) morning will pick it up.
“If I have to talk to them individually, I will do it and if I have to talk to them as a team, I will do that as well,” he explained.
