Members of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party leaders in Kampala metropolitan have tasked the government to support herbalist David Ssenfuka, in the fight against cancer and diabetes.

Ssenfuka is the brain behind Leonia-NNN Medical Research and Diagnostic Centre in Kasubi, who uses herbal remedies handed down to him by his late grandmother, to cure cancer and diabetes.

Despite the growing number of people giving testimony about the effectiveness of his herbal remedy from Ssenfuka’s Leonia-NNN Medical Research and Diagnostic Centre, the herbalist has since faced frustration and recently claimed he, and the professional medical workers he has partnered with on cancer and diabetes research, have been receiving threats from the Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI) and unknown people compelling him to reveal contents of his concoction or stop dispensing the medicine altogether.

The threats forced Ssenfuka to announce last month that he had suspended cancer treatment effective, citing frustration and sabotage.

However, Speaking to reporters at Imperial Royale Hotel Kampala today, former KCCA deputy speaker and former councilor for Nakawa Bruhan Byaruhanga revealed they are concerned by Ssenfuka’s cries for assistance, prompting them to add voices on those rallying support for the herbalist.

“President Museveni put aside a special budget to support science and innovations and Ssenfuka is one of those who are befitting for this money. We must not wait for our researchers to threaten to take their innovations to other countries and we rush to help them. It is high time we supported Ssenfuka as a country ‘’, said Byaruhanga , the NRM flag bearer in the Nakawa 2021 mayoral race.

He added that ; ‘’ “Aware of the difficulties that diabetes and cancer have caused not only to our local population but world over, we feel that we owe each other a duty of removing doubts in light of such a significant discovery  of a cure for these feared diseases. We now add our voices to the outcries already made for certification of Ssenfuka’s herbal novelties’’.

Bruhan in a meeting also attended by members of the opposition political parties said that it’s their duty as NRM to blow the trumpet of hope for the hopeless and spell courage to the fearful that a cure exists in our country and discovered under the NRM regime. He said that given that no battle has ever defeated NRM and their leader President Museveni having manifested exceptional qualities of saving us the cruelty of Covid, it is high time this innovator is assisted.

The Lubaga division NRM chairperson, Justine Buchana said it is terrible that innovators like Ssenfuka whose knowledge are meant to solve some of the biggest problems in the world are not assisted.

“Many people have come out to testify that they were healed by Ssenfuka’s herbal cure. Which other evidence do we need? If the government can support many other people, why not Ssenfuka whose innovation concerns the health of every citizen,”Buchana said.

The NRM leader’s appeal to the government comes at time after the opposition Democratic Party (DP) president Norbert Mao asked the government to invest more in indigenous innovators like David Ssenfuka.

He divulged that one of the worst effects of colonialism is giving a perception that whatever is African is inferior.

He gave an example of the pharmaceutical industry where people think that unless one gets tablets that are packed nicely, they will not get healed.

“But all those things which are developed by the pharmaceutical industry are a result of theft. They stole our indigenous knowledge just like they stole our history and Geography,” he said.
