The dinnerd attracted representatives from all major media houses, Bankers and officials from Capital Markets Authority, among others. In her statement, the Guest of Honour, Minister of State for Water, and renowned peace advocate Betty Bigombe noted that giving back to the communities through such awards is an indication of how close NSSF is to its members.

NSSF boss Richard Byarugaba explained that the NSSF Torch Awards is an initiative under the Fund’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme that will enable the Fund to systematically implement its CSR agenda.

“These awards are premised on the fact that as a socially responsible organization, we have a duty to ensure that in fulfillment of our statutory mandate, we contribute to the wellbeing of the communities in which we do business,” he said. He said that the Fund will select three projects from among those that will be submitted. A total of Shs35 million will be given as financial support to winning projects. The first will receive support of Shs20m, Shs10m for the second and UGX 5m for the third.  In order to ensure transparency, the projects will be evaluated by a panel of eminent persons and the winners will be announced to the public.

The projects should focus on four areas of Youth, Education, Health and the Elderly.
