Sources told Red pepper online that, NTV’s Namawejje and others were rushing to Mbarara to cover the Ankole Miss Tourism event, and were traveling in a Land cruiser registration number UAN 690B.
Phillip Mukasa, the Katonga Regional Police spokes person said, the vehicle had about eight occupants in total. The other five were rushed to Mulago Hospital in very critical condition.
Mukasa blamed the accident on careless driving.
“Their car driver lost control as he tried to overtake another vehicle which was in front of him,” Mukasa said.
He also identified some of the victims as; Lawrence Ogwal, Betty Chacwo, David Gumusiriza, Ivan Seruma, and Julian Kyomuhendo,  who works at Pastor Yiga’s ABS TV.
After the accident, Mpigi Police carried away the three bodies of the deceased and kept them at Mpigi Health Center III before they were transfered to Mulago National Referral Hospital mortuary for further medical scrutiny.
“But it seems there is a technical problem on Kampala-Masaka road compared to Masaka-Mbarara road, how comes 3, people died two days ago also in an accident at Katende in Mpigi and 30 others were critically injured and now in less than a week our colleagues are also gone!” one of the deceased’s relatives was overheard wondering.
“Resty my dear, why die? I loved going back home late with you…now that I think about it I’m glad I let you be taken first last time we were the last 2. How sad! How horribly sad…life was laying a beautiful path for you. God’s Will? He doesn’t have enough angels to look at? Resty rest in peace!” NTV’s Florence Mujaasi posted on her Facebook upon getting the news regarding the death of her colleague. May they RIP!
