BY OUR REPORTER

YUMBE. The troubles of Abason Mohammad Ingamule, the husband of Huda Abason Oleru, the Minister of State for Defence and Veteran Affairs are far from ending.

This is after a disabled man from Yumbe district dragged him to court over allegations of illegal arrest and land grabbing.

Safi Aliason Aliku, a visual impaired resident of Kulacha village, Kululu Sub-County whose left leg was also amputated complained to court on March 11, 2023 accusing Ingamule of arresting and detaining him at Yumbe CPS as a result of his 12-acre land he (Ingamule) wants to grab.

Earlier, Aliku filed a civil suit against Ingamule under civil suit number 0030 of 2021 at the Chief Magistrate’s Court of Yumbe for allegedly trying to grab his 12 acres land located in the said village, a case which later went up to mediation but failed on January 12, 2022.

In a complaint letter filed to the Resident State Attorney of Yumbe, Samuel Ondoma of Alaka and Co. Advocates, the Lawyer representing Aliku observed that on April 6, 2018, his client purchased the land in question from one, Lumago Ratib at a total price of Shs6,500,000.

“Our client in the year 2019 fell sick and intended to sell the land to Ingamule Mohammad Abason, the sale agreement was prepared but no payment was effected leading to cancellation of the agreement. Our client continued using the land peacefully until Ingamule Mohammad Abason trespassed on the same, as a result, our client duly filed a civil suit against Ingamule Mohammad Abason under civil suit number 0030 of 2021 which went up to mediation but failed on January 12, 2022,” the complaint letter read in part.

“The matter was referred back to court for hearing and is currently at the stage of defense hearing at the Chief Magistrate’s court of Yumbe at Yumbe before His Worship Alli Tibenkana, the Magistrate Grade One of Yumbe. Take notice that our client informed us that he has cassava on his land which was verified and he was given a certificate of Agro-input inspection by the district Agriculture officer – Yumbe,” the letter added.

Ondoma, however, stated that on March 1, 2023, his client’s cassava field got burnt and the agriculture officer advised him to harvest it.

“Our client upon receiving the advice from the agriculture officer, instructed his workers to harvest the burnt cassava field from March 2, 2023. However, on Tuesday March 7, 2023, our client’s workers were arrested by ten policemen and two soldiers with orders from Abason. Take further notice that when our disabled client visited the police station to find out why his workers were arrested and detained by police at Yumbe CPS, he was instead put in a police cell and forced to sign an additional statement in front of soldiers and police,” Ondoma explained in the complaint letter.

“Our client also informed us that the police officers who arrested his workers ferried two trips of raw cassava from his garden and one trip of cassava from his home. That his hoes were taken to police as exhibits but the cassava was taken to an unknown location without his notice. The purpose of this letter is to formally inform your good office that our client has been maliciously targeted by Ingamule Abason who is the defendant in civil suit number 0030 of 2021, yet the ownership of the land in question is yet to be determined and the crops on this land like cassava, tomatoes, egg-plant belong to our client,” Ondoma said.

The letter leaked days after we reported how the same Ingamule Abason was dragged to court for failing to clear rent arrears amounting to Shs5, 421, 961.

The case which is coming up for hearing on April 13, 2023 was filed by Jurua Karilo Alia on February 2, 2023. Jurua alleged that Ingamule failed to clear rent arrears, water bill and personal belongings, all amounting to Shs5, 421, 961. The civil suit number 0013 of 2023 was filed in the Chief Magistrate’s court of Arua.

But in his defence filed in Court on February 21, 2023 through his lawyer, Nasur Muhamad Buga of M/S Buga & Co. Advocates, Ingamule denied entering into tenancy agreement with Jurua and therefore, not indebted to him to the tune of Shs5, 421, 961.
