Pastor Kiwedde Denied Bail

Self proclaimed Pastor William Muwanguzi well known as Kiwedde has been denied bail.
Muwanguzi applied for bail on grounds that his health condition was gradually deteriorating in prison.
Muwanguzi further told court that he’s suffering from diabetes, pressure and also claimed he had a metal in his led that supports his movement and needed to see his doctor for a checkup.
However court rejected his plea on grounds that Muwanguzi and his co-accused were not residents of the area where the accused committed the crime. It would therefore be hard to keep them in check once granted bail.
Court also rejected his two sureties Fred Kasimba 23 and Isaac Odeng 28 on grounds that they were not substantial.
Prosecution led by Miriam Akite argued that the sureties are dependants of the accused, have neither permanent residence nor property registered in their names and their documents had inconsistencies because one of their letters was dated 25th July 2013 before the crime was committed.
Akite further argues that the sureties came to stand for William Muwanguzi a Ugandan, yet the charge sheet has Lwazi Paul Mwamba a Kenyan National which could confuse the matter before court.
She explained that the fact that Muwanguzi did not present medical documents to prove to court that he was suffering from what he claimed could leave court in suspense.
Drama ensued when Muwanguzi’s wife Patience Akinambabazi had openly told court that she had come to stand surety for her embattled husband. However the two sureties challenged her saying they had medical forms showing that Muwanguzi was sick. The three caused some commotion in court for about five minutes prompting police intervention.
Kalisizo Grade One Magistrate Susan Awidi ruled that the Muwanguzi and his co-accused Julius Mukasa have a case to answer saying they should prepare their defense on the stated date.
