Uganda Revenue Authority today morning impounded pioneer buses accusing the company of failinf to pay its tax arrears amounting to sh8bn. The arrears according to URA arose out of Pioneer Easy Bus failure to honor the memorandum of understanding they entered into with URA last year to pay Customs taxes on the importation of their 98 busses. In the memorandum, Pioneer Easy Bus agreed to pay the tax in installments within a period of 12 months. On October 30th, 2012 the Commissioner Customs issued a warrant of distress and authorized Spear Link Auctioneers and Court Bailiffs to attach all movable assets of Pioneer Easy Bus. The authority sayd they have been engaging Pioneer Easy Bus management from October but no single coin has been paid so expect Pioneer Bus to come to us within two days and agree on a plan and pay at least a substantial payment. If they fail to do so, then we will continue to enforce as the law mandates and advertise the busses for auctioning to recover tax,” Abudu-Sallam Wasswa, URA manager debt collection. Told reporters at Pioneers Namboole Yard.
