Police Arrests DP Youth In City Swoop
Police yesterday arrested more than 11 members of the Uganda Young Democrats (UYD), Democratic Party’s youth wing in the city center (Nakasero market) as they attempted to storm Office of the Prime Minister calling for Premier Mbabazi’s resignation.
The group’s spokesperson Waiswa Alex told the press convened at the party headquarters that they would raid the OPM offices after Government failed to fight the vice (corruption).
Chanting party slogans “DP egumire” the youth poured on the street waving placards reading “Mbabazi, Kuteesa, Museveni, Bigirimana should resign”.
But Police commanded by CPS DPC James Ruhweza had deployed over 100 men in uniform to counter the youth. Immediately the Police swung in action thus foiling a 30-minute procession around Nakasero Market where the youth were thrown like bags of cement onto Police trucks and whisked off to CPS where they were detained.
By press time, they were still at the Central Police Station.
Earlier, party president Norbert Mao commended the youth for the patriotism exhibited in fighting corruption by protesting the stay of indicted Government officials in office.
“If Police can’t stop arresting our youth I will tell you to go ahead. We have lawyers who will stand for you in Court go ahead and demonstrate,” Mao said.
Those arrested include; Hakim Kizza, Gerald Siranda, Martin Lukanga, and Paul Ssembajja. Others were Latin Waswa, Ismail Kayira, Robert Kitenda, Nathan Bwogi and their Spokesperson Alex Waiswa.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Ibin Ssenkumbi, said they arrested the youth because they had not informed the Police about the demonstration. “We got the information in time and deployed at their party.”
This is the second arrest of DP youth in two weeks for the same cause.

Good advice Stephen. By this time DP should have learned from the way FDC messes up itself. There is no good in violent confrontational politics. Act within the law and the downtrodden will be with you.
