The incident occurred on Thursday night at Mbirizi police station staff quarters after the deceased returned home from duty.

It is alleged that Ssekungu, a father of 12 children and three wives, shot himself dead in a toilet.

A resident who preferred for anonymity blames the incident on delayed salaries of police officers in the country. He says that police men more especially in rural areas go through hard times to raise their families because they are given very little money which is also not paid in time.

However, Noah Sserunjoji, Southern Region Police Spokesperson, says that unconfirmed reports indicate that the deceased had a domestic misunderstanding with one of his wives which could have forced him to commit suicide.

He says that Police has launched a comprehensive investigation into the matter. Sserunjoji however, has dismissed the allegations that the deceased could have killed himself because of delayed police salaries saying that salaries for the past two months were deposited on cops’ accounts.

Sserunjoji has advised police officers to always share the problems they go through with their colleagues to avoid such shocking incidents.

The deceased’s body has been taken to Masaka referral hospital for postmortem as investigations into the matter start.
