SFC Commissions New Buildings

The UPDF Commander of the Land Forces, Maj. Gen. David Muhoozi has paid tribute to the Army’s Special Forces component, describing it as a game-changer in the country’s military operations.
Maj. Gen. Muhoozi said this yesterday while commissioning a number of newly constructed buildings at the Julius Kambarage Nyerere Special Forces Barracks in Entebbe, Wakiso District. The Special Forces Commander, Brig. Muhoozi Kainerugaba also attended the function.
“The SFC has had such an illustrious journey – from a small force in the bush, to a competent, tactically proficient and multitasking force. The army leadership is very happy to have the Special Forces option on the table,” said Maj. Gen. Muhoozi.
One of these newly constructed buildings has been baptized Kembogo Hall in commemoration of the famous battle of Kembogo.
The decisive battle of Kembogo occurred on June 21st 1985 when the Special Brigade of the Uganda National Liberation Army (UNLA) commanded by Col. John Ogole was decimated by a well planned ambush by guerillas of the National Resistance Army (NRA) at Kembogo, in present day Nakaseke District.
This feat was achieved by the NRA Mobile Brigade commanded by senior officer and member of the High Command, Salim Saleh Rufu a.k.a Caleb Akandwanaho.
The battle played a pivotal role in hastening the collapse of the dictatorial regime of Milton Obote and securing a complete victory for the oppressed people of Uganda.
The Land Forces Commander also praised the choice of names at the various facilities and structures of the Special Forces, which he urged other units of the UPDF to emulate.
“Kembogo is very symbolic in the history of the resistance. Correct choice of names immortalizes the good deeds that our heroes achieved in the past – and when you are remembered and immortalized, you know that your work is valued,” added Maj. Gen. Muhoozi.
Brig. Muhoozi Kainerugaba said the Special Forces Command had been able to achieve tremendous progress in a very short time, but warned against complacency.
“The SFC spirit has been outstanding, but there is still a lot of work yet to be done. We should continue working to ensure and achieve better training and accommodation for our troops and therefore should never allow ourselves to become smug” said Brig. Kainerugaba.
Other senior army officers that graced the event included the Cantonment Commander of the Armored Warfare Training School in Karama, Mubende, Brig. Deus Sande, the Air Force Chief of Staff Col. James Birungi, Deputy Commander Field Artillery Division, Col. Daniel Kakono, and Deputy Special Forces Commander, Col. Muzeyi Sabiiti.
