Tear-gas rocked Soroti Town on Monday evening as Police battled enraged football fans during the Copa Coca Cola Post Primary finals in Soroti District.
Hundreds of fans in Soroti town had gathered at the Soroti Stadium to watch Coca cola finals which flopped.
The final match was supposed to be played between Light Secondary School and Noor Secondary School, the teams that had qualified to play in the finals on Monday afternoon.
The situation first became tense when Soroti SS, who were beaten in the semi finals, appeared in the pitch to play in the Coca Cola Finals with Light SS.
Angry fans invaded the field to stop the match between Soroti SS and Light SS.
They demanded the organizing committee to allow Light SS play with Noor SS, the teams that had qualified to compete in the finals.
The fans became rowdy and camped inside the field preventing the final match from kicking off.
The fans threw stones at the Police prompting them respond with tear-gas.
The Police engaged in running battles with the fans for about one hour.
Earlier on in the day the semi finals which were supposed to kick off at 8.00 am began off at 12:00 pm.
Stephen Omoko, the Games Teacher Soroti SS, told our reporter that they played in protest and claims that Noor who beat Soroti SS in semi finals fielded mercenaries.
But the fans insisted that, the organizing committee was biased.
Juma Mwima, the Coach Noor SS, says they beat Soroti SS 2(4) :2(3) in the semi finals but they were shocked when the committee presented Soroti SS to play in the final match.
The Chairperson Technical, Samuel Adome Ojula told our reporter that, Soroti SS lodged a complaint to the committee petitioning about Noor SS and alleged that they had mercenaries
