Three Cops in Trouble for Aiding Murder Suspects to Escape from Custody

Lira police are holding three of their own for allegedly aiding murder suspects to escape from lawful custody. They are Detective Hassan Okello, Samuel Emodu, and Mike Opolot.

The cops are wanted for aiding Dickens Opero, Salim Okello and Maxwell Menya to escape from Lira central police station cells on October 26th, 2014. The trio was being held for torturing 62-year Tonny Ogwang, who was detained together with them in the same cell.

Ogwang, who was facing charges of indecent assault died at Lira referral hospital on October 22nd, 2014. A postmortem report indicated that he had a blood clot and a damaged brain.

The circumstances under which the suspects escaped from custody are still unclear, but some sources claim they broke the cell door. However, there are no signs to prove the claim.

Manshur Suwed, the Central North regional police spokesperson says the suspects will appear before court for trial.
