Thugs Disarm Policeman, Steal Gun

The Police in Masindi are hunting for unknown suspected thugs accused of grabbing a gun from a policeman at Karujubu Police post in Masindi Municipality.

The two thugs are said to have grabbed the AK47 rifle, which contained 30 rounds of ammunition from a policeman on duty on Wednesday night.
Moses Ekudot, the Masindi District Police Commander explains that the thugs, armed with a toy gun attacked the policeman at around 8:30pm and disarmed him.

Ekudot says after grabbing the gun, the thugs escaped to no trace. He suspects  the same gun  was used to rob residents of Bwijanga and Bujenje on Thursday night. They robbed a motorcycle Registration number UDV626N, airtime and unspecified amount of money.
The motor cycle was later recovered in Kinyara Sugarcane plantation

Ekudot says the disarmed policeman and his colleague with whom they were on duty have been arrested and detained. Two other suspects have also been detained in connection with the attack. Police have declined to name the suspects.

This is the second attack on a government installation after the attack on Maiha Prison where a guard lost 30 bullets to a suspected thug. On 18th December a prison warder at Maiha prison in Bwijanga Sub County lost ammunition to a suspected thug who attempted to disarm him.
Meanwhile joint patrols by police and the army have been launched in the district and Ekudot says this is intended to crackdown on the thugs.
