Unidentified thugs have raided Christ the King church in Kabale municipality and made off with property worth unspecified amount of money.
The incident occurred on Monday night. Rev. Fr. Fred Birungi, the priest of Christ the King church suspects that the thugs entered the church premises at around 2am through a section next to Kabale Municipal Stadium.
He says they broke the door to the church to gain entry. Birungi says the thugs made off with the public address system and an assortment of items he didn’t specify.
He says the church leadership will use the incident as an eye opener to step up security to secure the house of God. Ely Maate, Kigezi regional Police spokesperson says they have started investigating circumstances surrounding the theft at the church.
He asks church authorities to tighten security to protect their property from thugs. Since the beginning of this, year, several churches have lost items to thieves.
Among them is Our lady of Fatima Mubende catholic parish, Kyengeza catholic parish, Kiganda Catholic parish and Kasambya catholic church, all in Kiyinda Mityana diocese.
Others are St. Johns Church of Uganda in Masaka, St. Mark Cathedral, St. Matia Mulumba Kiganda, Ndejje Archdeaconary and St. Matia Mulumba Mbirizi in Lwengo district amongst others.
