TRAGIC! Cute S.6 student commits suicide on Easter Sunday

Shock and grief on Easter Sunday engulfed students and the school management of Solerg College in Kabale Municipality after they found a senior six student body hanging in the dormitory.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police spokesman has confirmed the incident and identifies her as Nikita Kiconco, 21, a senior six student and resident of Rutoma cell Nyabikoni ward central Division KMC Kabale District.

Maate says that the suspected suicide occurred on April 20^th, 2025 at midday in.

He says that it’s alleged that, on Friday April 18th, 2025, some students of Solberg College left for the Easter holiday and around sixty (60) others remained at school and among them included Kiconco Nikita but on Sunday the students left the school for prayers at Nyabikoni Church Of Uganda at around 10.39Am and only two students—Kiconco Nikita and Tusiime Alice remained at the school in different Dormitories, where Kiconco claimed to have not been feeling well and was on medication.

But at around 1pm when the students came back from church, they found the body of Kiconco Nikita hanging with the rope tied around her neck and up on the timber at the roof. Students made an alarm which attracted the matron who informed the school head teacher and upon seeing the body he immediately reported the matter to CPS Kabale.

Maate says that upon receiving the information, a case file of suspected suicide was opened at Kabale police station and the homicide team under the command of D/IP Barijunaki Samuel the acting o/c CID Kabale CPS visited the scene of crime and documented it.

The body was retrieved from the scene, taken to Kabale referral hospital mortuary for examination.

He says that the Police has commenced investigations.

Ronah Asiimwe, the school nurse said that Nikita has been on mental health medication.

Elizabeth Ainembabazi, a friend says that she has always been a jolly person when she was in her moods but most of the time she liked to be alone.

Denis Tumwesigye the Head teacher of the school says that she had spent one month at the school having been brought by her sister. She had spent a year without going to school.
