Uganda To Refund Stolen UK Funds
The Government of Uganda, through the Office of the Prime Minister has been asked to pay back €4m in misappropriated Irish funds, which ended up in a bank account operated by officials from the prime minister’s office.
In a candid two-hour meeting held on Monday, the Irish ambassador Anne Webster, made it clear the Irish Government expects the funds to be repaid. Webster and other ambassadors met the Prime Minister, Amama Mbabazi at his office in Kampala.
Immediately after the meeting, seventeen senior officials from the Prime Minister’s office and the finance ministry were suspended over the alleged fraud.
Although the Prime Minister declined to reveal the details of the discussions with donors’ representatives, he said the Government regrets what happened.
“We regret that this happened. As a country and Government, we are sorry it happened. It was obviously a criminal act. The theft was massive. We regret. It is a pity,” he said
The alleged fraud involved sh16.2b that was meant for the Northern Ugandan Peace Recovery and Development Plan (PRDP).
The money was from Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Britain which prompted the Irish government to suspend all funding to the Ugandan Government.
“We condemn that act in the strongest terms and want to assure everyone that all the necessary measures to bring those responsible to book will be carried out.”
The foreign envoys, who attended the two-hour meeting with Mbabazi were Anne Webster (Ireland), Ambassador D. E. Frederickson (Denmark), Urban Undersson (Sweden) and Thorbjoorn Gaustadsaether (Norway), Daniel Graymore (head of the Department for International Development), Theo Hoorntje (the Charge of Affairs of the European Union) and Ahmadou Mustafa Ndiaye (World Bank Country Manager)

I told you. this magnitude of theft is not sustainable.
Uganda will use tax payers money to refund the stolen donor funds leaving the looters to enjoy their loot and the war victims in the north and east to suffer. The accounts of the looters must be emptied and property sold to refund the stolen money and they must end up in luzira not only for large scale theft but also for causing suffering to the people of the north and east
They’ve stolen enough, enough is enough, they should not nt be fired bt imprisoned for 50yrs and all their assets sold and the cash used for 4 what it shd do.
am very sure the looters are not from northern Uganda
The so called foreign donors keep enriching looters by giving them free money. I wish their citizens knew what really African leaders are, so they could never allow these stupid donors to ever give a dime to these Africans. It is a pity that I say this about my fellow Africans but the fact is…we as Africans are worth nothing. We are the biggest thieves, murders, looters, human rights violators of all time! We contribute nothing to the development of our globe but to beg and loot. We deny out fellow human being their true humna rights for the sake of power. Amazingly, when we migrate to European countries and other western democracies, we contribute positively and we are among the best students.
So, for all Africans that are still under the shacles of our African leaders, i say, if you can fight back, you have been condemned to a pit of useless nothings by these thieves, murderers and worthless non contributers to the global good.
Mr Bigirimana, u know this country belongs to Ugandans not Rwandans. People are watching and you will one day answer for the money.
But the chief thief is known.Until he is dealt with by the appointing aurhority he Will continue sacrificing the small thieves.
