Ugandan Entrepreneur James Mulwana Dead
James Mulwana, a top Kampala businessman in Kampala passed away on Tuesday morning at Nakasero Hospital family members revealed.
At the age of 76, Mulwana was considered one of the wealthiest men in Uganda and his death comes as shock, considering that he was not publicly known to be ill.
Although the cause of his death is yet to be established from the post-mortem report, he had been a diabetes patient for a long time.
Mulwana leaves behind a wife and three children.
HIS LEGACY
In 1961, he got started in the import and export business.
– Uganda Batteries Limited which was started in 1967 and in 1990 he gained full ownership of the company.
– Nice House of Plastics Limited was established in 1970. The Company manufactures toothbrushes, household products, writing instruments like ball pens, packaging products soda and beer crates, jerry cans as well as agricultural equipment (knapsack sprayers).
– Jesa Farm Dairy Limited which was founded in 1988 with a herd of 550 Friesian cows. Later, Jesa Mixed Farm’s operations expanded; leading to the establishment of Jesa Farm Dairy Limited (1994), with a milk processing, pasteurising and packaging plant to produce packed milk, butter yoghurt and cream.
– Nsimbe Estates Limited started in 1992mainly involved in horticultural farming for export of cut flowers, in a joint venture with a German partner.
– Jesa Investments Limited a Commercial Property Development entity he started in 2002.
– In 1988, he spearheaded the revival of the Uganda Manufacturers Association and served as its Chairman till early November 2000. Currently he was serving as Chairman, Advisory Committee.
– He was appointed a Director to the Board of Standard Chartered Bank Uganda Limited in 1992. In 1998, he was appointed Chairman (1998- to date)
– In 1993, he was appointed Honorary Consul of the Royal Kingdom of Thailand to Uganda, a position he still held to- date.
– In October 2008 he was promoted as Honorary Consul General, a position he still held to date.
– In 1995, BAT Uganda (1984) appointed him to its Board of Directors. Later he was appointed non-executive Chairman of the Board (1994- to date).
– He was elected Chairman Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) in 1996 until April 2008. Currently, he was serving as Chairman Advisory Committee.
– He was appointed, as a Director of Eskom Uganda Limited in 2003 to date. Eskom is the company responsible for the generation of Hydro Electric Power in Uganda.
– He was appointed as a Director to the Board of Directors of the Insurance Company of East Africa Limited ICEA in 2002 to date.
RIP James Mulwana.You will be left in the hearts of many for all you have done.It’s a shock indeed.May the family take heart.
