Hussein Ibra’s acts of humility, generosity and hard work have earned him a place in the hearts of the students of Makerere University, one of the most high-status universities in Africa.
Hussein is the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM)’s flag bearer for the 88th guild president of Makerere University and a proud member of Team Chairman MK Project, a famous outfit led by Toyota Nuwagira Michael alias Chairman, which promotes achievements and programs of Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba a Ugandan military leader serving as the commander of the land forces of the Uganda People’s Defence Force.

Hussein is in the race with; Tukamushaba Justus, Alionzi Lawrence Dangote ,Mpiirwomugisha Isaiah ,Namirembe Blessious ,Kicaber Saviour among others.
Details have emerged as to why Hussein, an well-dressed outspoken renowned mobiliser is leading the race to fill the position currently held by the National Unity Platform (NUP)’s Shamim Nambassa, the 87th guild president.
‘’It has always been in gossips that Hussein Ibra is most suited man for the Makerere guild presidential job, but I have decided to bring him to closer to you so that you use your own judgment to prove the gossips wrong or right’’, said one of Hussein’s mobilizer.
Hussein wants to improve on student’s welfare and make sure that facilitation for student’s needs is catered for.
He says he wants to set up a strong student’s leadership that will work on student’s needs based on accountability, and advocating that the University Council come up with fair policies towards the students.

MASSIVE SUPPORT: Hussein Supporters Doing Mobilization
Hussein wants to improve on student’s welfare and make sure that facilitation for student’s needs is catered for.
He says he wants to set up a strong student’s leadership that will work on student’s needs based on accountability, and advocating that the University Council come up with fair policies towards the students.
‘’We also advocate for Good meals, accommodation and student’s welfare. We want to make sure that funding towards research is increased because students pay for it through functional fees. Good leadership, accountability and security for students and their property is also our interest’’, noted Hussein while speaking to our reporter on phone.
Hussein Ibra started his leadership journey early in his high school. He went to Jinja senior secondary school alias the mighty school where he was part of the student leadership that led over five thousand students and this exposed him to mature leadership.
He later joined Mpoma Boys School in Mukono where he focused on organizational leadership in clubs and associations.
He finished his A level at Mpoma School Satellite compass and there he was the president of their prom and this gave him a platform to practice his events organizing skill.

In his vacation, he worked with Nyanza Perch Limited with a tender of buying and selling their fish. That is how he becomes a Jinja based business man.
‘’Because he is a youth devotee, he took up the task of leading the youth of Jinja and that’s how he started with the position of secretary for labor in the maternity village and secretary for labor Walukuba west parish. From there he contested for the primaries of NRM on the position of youth councillor but lost’’, added a source close to Hussein.
Hussein persisted and ran on an independent ticket and the youth of Jinja decided that it should be him to represent them in the council, regardless of the fact that it’s so hard to become a youth leader in Uganda without the NRM backing.
As male youth councillor he was appointed on the works committee of the council. He serves as the Deputy speaker of the youth committee in Butembe County in Busoga kingdom. He has also represented the youths of Jinja in the last National Youth Council.
When joined Makerere, Hussein was only ready to reside in the Lumumba Hall of residence. Because of his affection for the Lumumba Empire, he was elected as GRC Lumumba hall and that’s how he gets to revive the respect and pride of the Lumumba empire.
‘’He revived the Lumbox solidarity too, between the ladies of Mary Stuart Hall and the gents of Lumumba hall. Amongst the things he did for Lumumba, he also advocated for the renovation of the Hall, through Mass media on National Televisions and all offices that he accessed like the university management and his area member of Parliament, Igeme Nathan Nabeta. The funding for the renovation of all halls of residence is already with the university secretary and works will begin starting with Lumumba hall’’, a source added.
One of the wonders that have befallen this Charismatic gentleman is that he was appointed guild minister for social affairs upon reaching the GRC house in his first year at Makerere University.
In his ministry of social affairs, he received Shs 5million to organize the freshers ball but he managed to organize a multi-million event that was featured by big names in the entertainment industry like Eddy Kenzo, Fik Fameica, Fefe Busi, Viper ranking and Dog City with a list so endless.
‘’The fresher’s ball provided a lot of opportunities to the students of Makerere University. For example, students got stalls to sell juice and snacks to the party animals and this earned them a lot of money. The ball also brought together students from Makerere University and the surrounding universities which were like a reunion event. Students also got a platform to express and showcase their talents as time was put aside for only student artists to perform to the massive crowd. All for sure, the Makerere Fresher’s ball of the 87th guild ministry for social affairs is still rated the most attended event 2022’’.

The guild minister for social affairs has also played a role of enhancing the social activities at Makerere University. For example, with the president of the Red Cross Club of Makerere University, they mobilized students to clean up parts of Kalerwe and Bwaise in a bid to protect food sources from spreading communicable diseases.
Kalerwe market is the source of fresh food for most parts of Makerere University. He also mobilized the 87th guild cabinet to attend the Educate an Orphan marathon organized by the Muslim community of makerere university.
This explains why the NRM chapter has endorsed Hussein to be their flag bearer for the Makerere guild presidential race.
The decision was reached after all contestants in the flag bearer race met and resolved that amongst them all, Hussein was the right candidate to hold and win with the NRM flag.
Among the contestants who bowed out for Hussein are Elisa Lutalo and Tumushabe Justus.
With all this experience and exposure to leadership and electioneering, many believe that there is no candidate that can match such competency.
‘’We however set the ball rolling for Makerere university students to decide who will be their 88th guild’’, noted a source.
Each academic year, students of Uganda’s oldest University (Makerere University) go to the polls to elect a guild president who is supposed to serve as a link between the students and the university administration, according to the recommendations.
